Public appeal for protection : Stay safe during lightning storms, says Chief Minister Shri Sai
Instructions issued to all districts to demonstrate safety measures in local languages to protect against lightning and thunderstorms
Special awareness programs are also being organized by urban bodies, Panchayats and non-governmental organizations
Raipur : Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai urged the public to seek shelter in a safe place during thunderstorms. “The safety of the people of the state is our priority and in situations of thunderstorm caution is the only way to avoid lightning. Therefore, staying alert and following the instruction to safeguard against lightning is expected from our vigilant citizens,” requested Chief Minister Shri Sai.
Chief Minister has expressed grief over the incidents of loss of life due to lightning in various areas of the state in the past few days. He has appealed to the citizens to take all necessary precautions to avoid such incidents. He said that instructions have been issued to demonstrate safety measures in local language and make people aware to protect against lightning and thunderstorms at the district level. Urban bodies, Panchayats and non-governmental organisations have also been asked to organise special awareness programmes.
Chief Minister Shri Sai has asked people to strictly follow preventive measures to ensure safety of themselves and their loved ones in case of lightning or thunder. He has appealed to people to stay in a safe place during thunderstorms, stay indoors and keep a distance from trees and electricity poles. He has asked people to keep a distance from metal objects during this period, not to touch metal objects like umbrellas, rods and wires during rains, which has a tendency to attract lightning.
Shri Sai has appealed to People to avoid reservoirs, ponds, rivers, and swimming pools during thunderstorms, as electricity can spread more easily through water, making it highly dangerous. He has instructed people not to use electronic devices during this period as well as avoid using computers, phones, TV etc. and keep the internet off in their devices. He has advised people to stay outside their houses during lightning strikes and if a safe place is not available, they should sit with their heels together and cover their ears.
