CM Sai pays tribute at the residence of Raipur’s first woman MLA, late Rajni Tai Upasane

Raipur, September 8, 2025/ Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday visited the Police Lines area in Raipur to pay homage at the residence of late Mrs. Rajni Tai Upasane, the city’s first woman legislator and noted social worker. He fondly recalled her contributions and met the bereaved family members to console them. Former Rajya Sabha MP Kailash Soni, Santosh Sharma, Jagdish Upasane and family members were present on the occasion.
Chief Minister Sai said that the demise of Rajni Tai is an irreparable loss to society. He recalled how she had shown exemplary courage and patience during the difficult days of the Emergency, calling her life an inspiration. During her tenure, she always placed public welfare and the development of Raipur as her foremost priority. Known for her simplicity, integrity, and deep connect with society, she earned a distinct identity. She remained consistently active in advocating the rights of women and marginalized sections. The Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
It is noteworthy that Rajni Tai Upasane, Raipur’s first woman MLA and a prominent social worker, passed away recently at the age of 92. In 1977, contesting on a Janata Party ticket, she created history by becoming the first woman legislator from Raipur. At a time when women’s participation in politics was extremely limited, winning the confidence of the people reflected her courage and determination.
