Raipur : Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has said that a dedicated strategy must be prepared to improve the livelihoods of artisans traditionally engaged in weaving, embroidery, handicrafts, and clay art. He underlined that reviving the income sources of communities involved in these crafts for generations remains a key priority of the state government.
Chairing a review meeting of the Gramodyog (Village Industries) Department at Mahanadi Bhawan on Tuesday, the Chief Minister held detailed discussions on measures to promote silk, handicrafts, khadi, handloom, and clay craft, as well as initiatives aimed at uplifting the living standards of artisans and weavers across the state.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister sought comprehensive updates on all components under the department. He stated that these sectors hold immense potential for employment generation. He directed officials to prepare a robust and integrated action plan covering training, financial assistance, modern technology adoption, and marketing support to create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Highlighting the state’s rich tradition and craftsmanship in silk production, kosa fabric manufacturing, and handloom, Shri Sai said there is a need to take Chhattisgarh’s legacy to new heights. He noted that the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology operating in the state can play a pivotal role in producing skilled artisans. He instructed officials to ensure smooth functioning of the institute and full utilization of allocated funds to provide high-quality training to beneficiaries.
