AI revolution to drive India towards becoming a Viksit Bharat: Principal Scientific Adviser, GoI

New Delhi: Artificial Intelligence (AI) can drive India’s growth, improve governance, and position the country as a global AI leader, suggested Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India during 5th edition of AI India Conclave 2024 organized by FICCI in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India. The conclave brought together key industry players, policymakers, and experts to explore AI’s vast potential across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and infrastructure.

Prof. Sood talked about the AI Revolution in India, and said, “AI revolution will drive India towards becoming a Viksit Bharat. By fostering homegrown innovation, building AI-ready infrastructure, and developing real-world applications, we are setting the stage for sustainable growth and development across sectors.”

Further talking about India’s digital landscape and its AI journey, Ms. Roma Datta Chobey, Chairperson, FICCI Technology Committee and Country Manager, Google India stated, “India’s AI journey is about harnessing the power of technology for the common good. Whether it’s boosting agricultural yields or revolutionizing healthcare diagnostics, AI is at the heart of driving progress and creating an inclusive, prosperous future.”

Ms Shalini Kapoor, Co-Chair, FICCI Technology Committee and Director & Technologist, AWS India, highlighted the importance of digital infrastructure in scaling AI, and asserted, “The future of AI in India lies in building robust technology infrastructure, nurturing talent, and encouraging research and innovation in AI applications. By supercharging our compute capacity and supporting deep-tech startups, we will not only accelerate innovation but also ensure that the benefits of AI reach citizens in every sector in the country.”

The session also witnessed the release of the FICCI-EY Report titled “Identifying AI-Generated Content in the Digital Age: The Role of Watermarking.”

Talking on the report, Mr. Rajnish Gupta, Partner, EY highlighted the potential challenges and solutions around AI-generated content, noting, and stated, “As AI permeates digital content creation, watermarking will play a crucial role in ensuring content authenticity and accountability.”

Another highlight of the Conclave was a power packed CEO Panel on Building a Scalable AI Stack through Partnerships. The session was chaired by Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and several industry leaders including Ms. Roma Datta Chobey, Country Manager, Google India; Mr. Manish Sharma, Chairman, Panasonic Life Solutions India and South Asia; Ms. Shalini Kapoor, Director & Technologist, AWS India; Mr Gokul V Subramaniam, India President & Vice President Client Computing Group, Intel; Mr. Tarun Chhabra, Country Head, Nokia India and Mr. Jason Oxman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Information Technology Industry Council (ITI). The session explored the critical role of strategic partnerships in building a scalable AI stack for India. It featured discussions on collaborative models that foster innovation, strengthen AI infrastructure, and expedite adoption. The emphasis was on how partnerships across key stakeholders can unlock new opportunities and ensure the successful deployment of AI solutions across multiple sectors.
