DDU | February 19, 2026 The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) established a new benchmark in rail operations and employee welfare today with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art ‘Crew Lobby & Running Room’ at the DDU Unit. The facility was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Pravin Kumar, Managing Director (DFCCIL). Shri Shobhit Bhatnagar, Director/OP & BD; Sh. Pawan Kumar Rai, Director/PP; Northern Central Railway’s Senior Officers, and Shri Yatendra Kumar, PCEE; Shri Rajnish Agarwal, DRM (Prayagraj); Shri Uday Singh Meena, DRM (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya); graced the occasion.
A Strong Link Between Infrastructure and Staff: Welcoming the dignitaries, Shri Atul Kumar, Chief General Manager (CGM/DDU), emphasized the significance of the new facility. In his address, he stated, “This building is not merely a structure; it is a robust Bridge between DFCCIL’s world-class infrastructure and the frontline running staff (Loco Pilots) of the Indian Railways.” He further underscored that DFCCIL respects the right of its loco drivers to Essential Rest and Peace and is fully committed to ensuring the same.
Key Project Features:
Loco Pilots First: The primary objective of this facility is to provide a stress-free and comfortable resting environment for our Loco Pilots (Karmayogis). DFCCIL believes that a happy and well-rested crew is the ultimate guarantee of safe rail operations.
The Critical Link: It was highlighted during the press briefing that a rejuvenated Loco Pilot is vital for safe and high-speed freight movement. To achieve this, the facility is equipped with 150 beds, a modular mess, a yoga center, and a library/reading room.
Women Empowerment: In recognition of the increasing participation of women in the workforce, an entire floor has been dedicated exclusively to Women Loco Pilots with specialized amenities.
Green House Reality: Under the leadership of CGM Shri Atul Kumar, this project has transformed barren land into a ‘Green Building’ reality. The structure utilizes DGU (Double Glazing Unit) glass and AAC blocks, providing superior thermal insulation and energy conservation. The building is constructed as per IGBC Gold Certification standards.
Leadership and Implementation: The ceremony lauded the vision of Managing Director Shri Pravin Kumar, under whose leadership DFCCIL successfully operationalized the Eastern (EDFC) and Western (WDFC) corridors. His strategic guidance has led to the government entrusting DFCCIL with the prestigious East-West Corridor (Dankuni to Surat).
This ambitious project was completed within the stipulated timeline under the expert direction of Shri Atul Kumar, CGM/DDU. His team has set a new precedent in construction by turning a challenging site into a marvel of sustainable engineering.
