NEW DELHI : FICCI and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen collaboration on climate action, particularly in the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).
The signing of this MoU builds on the momentum generated during the Official Visit of the Prime Minister of India to Japan in August 2025, where the Prime Ministers of India and Japan endorsed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) as part of the India–Japan Joint Vision for the Next Decade. This JCM agreement aims to catalyse deployment of low-carbon technologies, attract investment, and facilitate technology transfer between the two nations, supporting India’s greenhouse gas emission reduction goals and sustainable development objectives.
The partnership aligns FICCI’s extensive industry network and policy advocacy strength with IGES’s research excellence and longstanding experience in environmental strategy and co-production of knowledge. Under the new FICCI–IGES MoU, both organisations will pursue collaborative research, joint publications, capacity-building initiatives, and shared platforms for dialogue and knowledge exchange, to bring in investments and advanced technologies for decarbonization. Through this collaboration, both institutions will work to support industry readiness, policy research, and knowledge exchange to accelerate low-carbon transitions.
Representatives from both organisations underscored the importance of India–Japan cooperation in advancing climate ambition while ensuring sustainable industrial growth. The partnership brings together FICCI’s extensive industry network and policy advocacy expertise with IGES’s global research leadership and experience in co-producing sustainability knowledge.
This collaboration reinforces FICCI’s commitment to supporting Indian industry in navigating evolving climate mitigation initiatives and strengthens bilateral engagement between India and Japan on climate and sustainability.
